Jewels are rare finds from mining. Socket one and it gives a global passive that applies no matter what you hold or wear. You manage them with /jewels.
Every rolled jewel is one of two kinds:
- A Gaian jewel only rolls mining stats.
- A Therian jewel only rolls combat stats, and those are PvE only. Every combat hit line on a jewel reads zero against another player.
What you find is always one or the other, never a mix. A third kind, the hand-made unique jewels, is never mined and plays by its own rules.
Jewel stats don't change PvP hits. The one exception is the of Renewal regeneration line, which works everywhere (see Notable lines).
Finding a jewel
Jewels drop unopened, as a Mystery Jewel, while you mine. The ore you break sets the jewel's rarity the same way it sets a shard's: the same eight tiers, from Simple on coal up to Exceptional on Ancient Debris. Where an ore spans two rarities, the drop can land on either one. Calcite gives the same rarities as Ancient Debris.
| Ore | Rarity |
|---|---|
| Coal | Simple |
| Iron | Simple / Uncommon |
| Lapis | Uncommon / Elite |
| Redstone | Elite / Ultimate |
| Gold | Ultimate / Legendary |
| Diamond | Legendary / Godly |
| Emerald | Godly / Divine |
| Ancient Debris | Divine / Exceptional |
Nothing raises the find chance. It is flat per ore and rides none of the shard stack: no enchant, prestige perk, booster, trim, Lodestone, of the Prospector or daily bonus changes it. Bonus-broken blocks (Powerball and the like) count as half a roll, the same as they do for shards.
Other ways to get one:
- Winning a Mining Rush can also hand the winner a Mystery Jewel, at the rarity of the rush's ore.
- Dusty hands new players 2 Simple Jewels.
- The Cut Stone quest line, which opens partway through The Descent, pays Mystery Jewels along the way.
- The Asphodel Map IV crate always pays Mystery Elite Jewels, and can pay Ultimate ones.
- Several store loot boxes, including the rotating Weekly Loot Box, carry Mystery Jewels. Their contents change, so check the box.
Unearthing one flashes the find in the middle of your screen with a chime. It is not announced to the server.
Opening a Mystery Jewel
A Mystery Jewel shows only its rarity. Right-click to cut it open and roll what's inside:
- Whether it cuts into a Gaian or a Therian is decided when you open it. Each is equally likely.
- It rolls 1 to 3 stats. One is the most common, three the rarest.
- Every stat rolls a tier from T1 (best) down to T8, then a value inside that tier's range.
The jewel's rarity sets the best tier it can reach. Only an Exceptional jewel can roll T1. Since Map 4, rolls lean toward the lower tiers: a top tier is the rare outcome, not the usual one.
| Rarity | Best tier | Rarity | Best tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple | T8 | Legendary | T4 |
| Uncommon | T7 | Godly | T3 |
| Elite | T6 | Divine | T2 |
| Ultimate | T5 | Exceptional | T1 |
Cutting a jewel with a T1 or T2 stat plays a flourish, for you only. Which stats exist on which ore is a matter for the Catalog below.
Socketing
Open /jewels to socket what you've cut. There are 4 sockets:
| Socket | Unlocks at |
|---|---|
| 1st | Always open |
| 2nd | Prestige 1 |
| 3rd | Prestige 2 |
| 4th | Prestige 3 |
Socketing uses up the item (a socketed jewel lives as server-side data, not in your inventory), and unsocketing gives it back.
- The same on/off jewel ability can't be socketed twice. Rolled stats stack normally.
- You can't socket or unsocket while combat-tagged, so there are no mid-fight swaps.
- Socketing and unsocketing has its own amethyst chime.
Players on the Ancients client get a native socket UI: your sockets show as extra hotbar slots (locked ones show the prestige they need), and the inventory screen gains socket slots you can click a jewel onto.
Loadouts
A loadout is a page of socketed jewels. Switch pages from the Loadouts button in /jewels, with /jewels loadout <number>, or from the tabs on the Ancients client. A switch swaps your whole set at once, anywhere you aren't combat-tagged.
- Everyone gets 2 pages.
- The paid season pass adds one at level 21 and one at level 35.
- The Everflame rank adds one.
- Each Jewel Loadout Expander adds one. Craft it from 5 jewels in an X shape. Unique jewels can't be used in it.
- The most you can have is 9.
Salvaging: fuse
Fusing happens at the Salvage Bench, opened with /salvage. Stage 3 jewels of the same rarity and press Salvage! to fuse them into 1 unopened Mystery Jewel of that rarity, a free reroll of the whole jewel.
- Any other mix is refused. Jewels can no longer be scrapped for Ancient Energy.
- Unique jewels can't be fused.
- You can't salvage while combat-tagged. Anything left staged comes back when you close the bench.
The same bench also fuses 3 Godly Enchant Orbs into 1 Mystery Godly Enchant Orb. Stage orbs or jewels in one press, not both.
Changing a jewel you keep
Two currencies work on a jewel you already own, anywhere, and both can leave it worse:
- The Reforging Sigil rerolls one random line into a different one, at a fresh tier.
- The Jewel Truing Stone keeps every line and its tier, and rerolls only the values.
Right-click either one to pick which jewel it works on, or pick it up onto your cursor and click it onto a jewel in your inventory. Socketed jewels have to be taken out first.
For more control, the pit's jewel crafting items are used at the Confluence in the Lower Pit. A line that has been locked there can't be changed by the Sigil or the Stone, and a frozen jewel refuses both.
Notable lines
The Catalog lists every stat. These lines changed in Map 4:
- of Renewal (new): regenerate up to 0.1 health per second per jewel. It pools with the Vitality enchant under the shared item regeneration cap. It is the only jewel line that also works in PvP.
- of the Alchemist: pays its rolled percent of mined ore value as Ancient Energy (it used to be a flat 5%), and Alchemist jewels in more than one socket add together.
- of Immolation: a PvE kill can explode for 10% of the dead enemy's max health, down from 25%.
- Leech lines are a sixth of what they were: of Vampirism tops out at 0.25%, of the Bloodletter at 0.5%, and the one-weapon leech lines at 0.75%. Existing jewels dropped by the same amount.
Where combat lines work:
- Jewel crit chance and crit multiplier work against Shades and Wraiths.
- Damage, crit, leech and of the Whirlwind lines work against Erebus Guards.
- Jewel leech from enchant procs doesn't work on cell guards or combat loggers.
- Jewel damage bonuses only count once on Melee Splash, Judgment, Detonate and of the Whirlwind hits.
The Catalog
The /jewels menu has a Catalog listing every stat each ore can give, with the full tier-by-tier range on each. It opens on a type list: pick Gaian or Therian to browse that type's stats.
Entries start hidden and reveal for the whole server the moment anyone first rolls that stat on that ore. The first finder is credited by name on the entry. This wiki won't spoil it, so go roll something nobody has.
Jewels and death
Socketed jewels are kept through every death, everywhere: the mines, the pit, the Polis, a guard kill and a combat logger's death. A loose jewel or Mystery Jewel carried as an item follows the area's normal item-loss rules, and so does a jewel sitting on the Confluence. See Death & Item Loss.
How jewel stats stack
Jewel stats pool with your other sources rather than multiplying on top of them:
- Jewel critical strike chance pools with Precision, and jewel Critical Strike Multiplier pools with Brutality. Both jewel lines are PvE only, so against a player you keep the enchant half and lose the jewel half.
- The of the Prospector shard-find stat pools additively with armour trim shard find and Lodestone.
- Increased Mining Speed from jewels sums into the same additive pool as every other increased Mining Speed source (see Mining Speed).
