A skeletal warlord wreathed in cursed flame, Thanatos is a Hard fight: the second-toughest of the normal bosses, with only Hephaestus above him and the Uber bosses above them both. He has 16,000 health.
Summoning
- Key: Thanatos' Idol, forged from 96 Essence of Thanatos. That essence drops from shades and wraiths at Polis levels 100 and 101 (with a little from 95). See Hunt Tiers & Boss Essence. Idols also come out of Mystery Boss Keys. There is no shop that sells them.
- Requirement: Community Fund tier III, the only gate.
- Summon him at his altar. The full process is covered in Summoning a Boss.
- His altar also takes Thanatos' Unpaid Toll, the separate uber key that calls Uber Thanatos from Fund tier V.
The fight
Thanatos has a new fight for Map 4, fought alone in his own arena. He pierces 20% of your armour, his melee hits for 14.5 and his Ashen Runes for 120. During his big moves he takes 90% less damage rather than going immune. He slowly regenerates if you leave him alone, can't be slowed and can't be stun-locked. See Boss Fight Mechanics. If you go down, you respawn at his altar. Read his tells and the openings reveal themselves.
Drops
All loot goes to the summoner. The table runs from crafting fuel and consumables up through the Lucky IV exceptional orb, boosters, the Wrath of Thanatos (Fury) offhand line, Netherite Scrap and Mining Bots, which now only drop from him. His rarest pull is his own armour trim. See Boss Loot & Drop Announcements.
Killing him pays the summoner 4,000 Hunter XP. Chasing the trim? Track it on the RNG Meter.
Echidna is the gentler boss below him, and Uber Thanatos the harder one above (the only source of The Everwrought).

- Thanatos has a new fight and 16,000 health, with no hidden damage reduction. He pierces 20% of your armour.
- His melee now hits for 14.5, up from 8.75, and his Ashen Runes deal 120, down from 150.
- He takes 90% less damage during his big moves instead of going immune.
- Mining Bots are 4x rarer and now only drop from him. His trim is 1.3x rarer, the Lucky IV orb 2x rarer, and Fury offhand tier I 10x, tier II 7x and tier III 5x rarer.
- He no longer drops the Raider armour trim, GKit beacons or the Enchant Catalyst, and drops 1 Netherite Scrap at a time, down from 1 to 3.
- Motes of the Ancients became Enchant Dust.
- His key takes 96 essence and can no longer be bought. Kills pay Hunter XP instead of Hunter Points.
