Pickaxe Prestige Rewards: Paths, Perks & Stats
Every pickaxe prestige hands you exactly one reward to choose: a path perk at the milestones, or a base stat at every level in between. This page covers what lands at each level, the three paths and their perks, the shared stat pool, and the tokens that let you retune a finished pickaxe. For how to earn each prestige, and the block and Ancient Energy cost of every level on every pickaxe tier, see Pickaxe Prestige.
The Perks and Base Stats guide in the pickaxe prestige menu lists every perk and stat with its range.
One reward per level
| Prestige | You get |
|---|---|
| 1, 5, 10 | A path perk |
| 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 | A base stat |
| 11 | Your Tartarus perk only; see Tartarus Prestige |
That's 3 perks and 7 stats over the run.
The three paths
Picking your first path perk at Prestige 1 commits that pickaxe to one of three paths for good. Your P5 and P10 perks come from the same path.
- Shatter: perks that build on the Shatter enchant. 5 perks to pick 3 from.
- Powerball: extra projectiles and chaining. 5 perks to pick 3 from.
- Proc Manipulation: better proc odds and extra procs. 6 perks to pick 3 from.
The paths have no passive bonus of their own. The menu used to show one, but nothing ever applied it, so the line is gone.
Path perks
Perk values roll randomly within a range when you pick them, and each perk rolls a single range regardless of which slot you take it in. The menu shows the exact roll.
| Path | Perk | What it does | Roll |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shatter | Cluster Bomb | Chance for a Shatter to set off a second, bigger Shatter (+3 radius) that pays double | 6% to 10% |
| Shatter | Residual Knowledge | Shattered blocks give partial XP and bonus Ancient Energy | 3% to 6% |
| Shatter | Core Breach | Every 15th Shatter erupts with a much larger radius | +3 to +5 radius |
| Shatter | Shatterstorm | Shatter sends a march of aftershocks ahead of you | 25% to 45% extra total volume |
| Shatter | Spall | Shatter can proc on a meteorite and shear ore off the rock | 25 to 40 ore |
| Powerball | Swarm | Powerball launches more balls, each with its own block budget | 40% to 75% more balls |
| Powerball | Meteor | Chance for a Powerball to arrive as one giant comet that bores a 3x3 tunnel | 10% to 18% |
| Powerball | Fission | A spent Powerball splits into fragments that carry on at half the budget | 2 to 3 fragments |
| Powerball | Barrage | Every 120 blocks mined, a free Powerball volley fires on its own | 6 to 10 balls |
| Powerball | Debris Field | Powerball can proc on a meteorite and tear ore out of up to 3 others nearby | 8 to 16 ore per rock |
| Proc | Amplified Odds | Increased proc chance for your mining enchants (additive) | 21% to 31% |
| Proc | Overcharge | One block fires your Shatter, Powerball, Super Breaker, Feed and Earthquake at once | 10 to 19 per 1,000 blocks |
| Proc | Twinned | When one of the five core enchants procs, chance to fire one of the others | 20% to 35% |
| Proc | Second Chance | When one of the five core enchants procs, chance it procs again on your next ore | 15% to 25% |
| Proc | Thunderhead | Mining a meteorite can call a storm of lightning on every meteorite nearby | 11 to 16 bolts |
| Proc | Starlens | Mining a meteorite can fire a beam through the farthest meteorite in reach | 15 to 26 ore |
Each perk has its own page with the exact mechanics and interactions.
Pickaxes that already had Overcharge, Swarm, Second Chance or Amplified Odds below the new minimum were lifted to it.
The meteorite perks
Spall, Debris Field, Thunderhead and Starlens only do anything while you mine landed meteorites. None of them has a cooldown or a payout cap, none of them can take a rock's last ore (the finish belongs to whoever mines it), and the ore they take counts toward the Meteorite Hunter daily limit.
Natural procs vs forced procs
Overcharge, Twinned and Second Chance work by force-firing an enchant instead of letting it roll:
- A forced proc runs the enchant's full pipeline, so the path perks attached to that enchant still apply. A Twinned or Overcharged Shatter can still roll Cluster Bomb and Core Breach; a forced Powerball still gets Swarm, Meteor and Fission.
- A forced proc skips the chance roll, so Amplified Odds, trims and other increased-proc bonuses do nothing for it directly. They still help by making the natural procs that trigger these perks more common.
- A forced proc does not arm Second Chance. Only a natural proc does.
The five core mining enchants these three perks work with are Shatter (upgrading to Cataclysmic Shatter if you have it), Powerball, Super Breaker, Feed and Earthquake. Transfuse is no longer one of them. The more of the five you carry, the more these perks are worth.
Seven perks were retired in the Map 3 rework: Echoed Impact, Expanding Shatter, Chain Burst, Surpassing, Everlasting Powerball, Rising Probability and Proc Party. A pickaxe still carrying one keeps all of its other perks. The retired slot reads as empty.
Base stats
Base stats are shared across all paths, roll within a range, and each can be taken once per pickaxe. The exact range always shows in the menu.
| Stat | Roll |
|---|---|
| Ore Gain | 20% to 35% increased |
| Energy Gain | 12% to 22% increased |
| XP Gain | 10% to 15% increased |
| Shard Chance | 15% to 30% more |
| Global Proc Chance | 6% to 10% increased (additive) |
| Energy Capacity | 200% to 400% more |
| Reduced Extract Tax | 50% to 100% less |
| Ore Respawn Rate | 50% to 100% more |
| Meteorite Energy | 20% to 35% increased |
| Meteorite Ores | 30% to 50% increased |
| Mining Speed | 12% to 18% increased |
Calcite Efficiency is no longer a base stat. Pickaxes that had it lost that entry.
Read the wording carefully: increased is additive (it shares a pool with every other increased bonus of the same kind), while more is a separate multiplier. Shard Chance, Energy Capacity and Ore Respawn Rate are more; the rest are increased. Mining Speed pools with every other increased mining speed source, and Global Proc Chance and Amplified Odds add together with trim proc bonuses into one pool.
Meteorite stats only matter if you mine meteorites, and proc stats scale with how many enchants you've stacked on the pickaxe.
Retuning with tokens
Token items let you adjust a prestiged pickaxe after the fact. Drag one onto the pickaxe to use it. Each token also costs some Ancient Energy on top (shown on the Pickaxe Prestige page):
- Perk Swap Token: swap one unlocked perk for any path perk.
- Perk Reroll Token: reroll the value of every perk; the types stay the same.
- Stat Swap Token: swap one stat for a random new one.
- Stat Reroll Token: reroll the value of every stat.
The Perk tokens are gold coins with gold names, the Stat tokens steel coins with aqua names, each stamped with a swap or reroll glyph. The vote shop sometimes sells a Perk Reroll Token as a rotating deal.
Version history
v4.0.0 (Map 4)
- New meteorite perks: Spall (Shatter), Debris Field (Powerball), Thunderhead and Starlens (Proc Manipulation).
- Twinned, Second Chance and Overcharge now use the same five enchants: Shatter, Powerball, Super Breaker, Feed and Earthquake. Transfuse no longer counts.
- Core Breach fires every 15th Shatter (was 20th). Barrage fires every 120 blocks (was 150).
- Swarm rolls 40% to 75% (was 30% to 60%), Overcharge 10 to 19 (was 8 to 15), Second Chance 15% to 25% (was 11% to 19%) and Amplified Odds 21% to 31% (was 16% to 24%).
- The prestige menu has a Perks and Base Stats guide.
v3.0.0
- Seven path perks were replaced. Echoed Impact, Expanding Shatter, Chain Burst, Surpassing, Everlasting Powerball, Rising Probability and Proc Party are gone; a pickaxe carrying one keeps its other perks and the retired slot reads as empty.
- New Shatter perks Core Breach and Shatterstorm; new Powerball perks Swarm, Meteor, Fission and Barrage; new Proc perks Overcharge and Twinned.
- The Powerball path now has 4 perks to pick 3 from, matching Shatter and Proc.
- The Calcite Charge Find shared mod is now Calcite Efficiency. It reduces calcite enchant attempt costs on that pickaxe, and existing rolls keep their value.
- Prestige Mining Speed is now increased, pooling additively with every other mining speed source.
- The four prestige tokens now share one look: gold coins and gold names for the Perk tokens, steel coins and aqua names for the Stat tokens.
v2.0.0
- Prestige rewards restructured to one reward per level — a path perk at P1, P5 and P10, and a base stat at every level in between (3 perks + 7 stats). Your first perk now lands at Prestige 1, and Prestige 11 grants only its Tartarus perk.
- Path perks rebalanced — Surpassing, Chain Burst, Everlasting Powerball, Second Chance, Cluster Bomb and Expanding Shatter all roll lower.
- Base stat rolls lowered (Energy Gain, Ore Gain, Mining Speed, Global Proc Chance, Meteorite Energy, Shard Chance), and perks now roll the same range at every prestige slot.
- Mining proc-chance bonuses (prestige, trims, the of Overload rune) now add together into one bonus instead of multiplying, so Amplified Odds and Global Proc Chance read as additive.
