The Pit of Erebus is the server's open PvP pit and the home of the Erebus Guards. It drops jewel crafting items, Orbs of Moros, Crude Ore Cores and the Emberfall trims, and other players are free to take them off you before you get out.

Under the pit lies the Lower Pit, sealed at the start of every map. It holds the elites, the Confluence jewel crafting altar and Erebus, the Unlit.

Getting there

  • Use /warp pit, /pit or the Pit tile in the /warp menu. All three also work from the Forgotten Polis.
  • You need mining level 60.
  • The Pit unlocks for the season once the community completes Fund III. See the Community Fund.

The guard ring

The pit floor has 8 platforms. Each holds a squad of 4 Erebus Guards that rise out of a guardhouse behind it. Every squad is one of these:

Squad Health per guard
Erebus Guards (melee) 500
Erebus Marksmen (crossbows) 300
Erebus Frost, Flame or Storm Mages 300
  • A squad comes back together 15 seconds after its last guard dies.
  • Guards leave you alone until you hit one or hit another player inside the pit. Then the guards around you come for you.
  • Guards have no damage reduction. Their health is all there is.
  • The guardhouses and their forecourts count as part of the pit, so PvP, lockboxes and guard fights there follow the same rules as inside the ring.
  • Meteorites still land in the pit, away from the platforms.

Gear made for Shades works on Erebus Guards too: Wraithheart's bonus damage, Soul Siphon and Spectral Detonation, the Spectral and Skipstone set bonuses, and Detonate on swords and axes. Jewel damage, crit, leech and Whirlwind lines also work on them. Every guard kill gives Hunter XP.

Drops

Each ring guard kill rolls the pit's loot table once. Most kills drop nothing. What it can drop:

Drop Notes
Crude Ore Cores The pit is the only source
Orb of Moros
Jewel crafting items Used at the Confluence in the lower pit
Emberfall armour trim and pickaxe trim
A new offhand (tier I) Stronger tiers come from the lower pit and Erebus

Guard kills can also drop a new pet, rolled separately from the table.

Guard drops stay hidden in /loot and the /rng meter until someone on the server finds them, the same as boss drops. Guard kills count for the /daily bonus drop.

Enchant Dust, the Kill Tracker, meteor and meteorite shower flares, Forge Fuel, the armour and weapon expander boxes, the Mystery Boss Key, the Trim Remover and the Global Booster Box no longer drop in the pit.

Bad luck protection

Erebus Guards are covered by the RNG Meter. You can track both Emberfall trims, the rarer crafting items and the tier I offhand once someone on the server has found them.

Dying in the pit

The whole pit is a PvP zone, and there is no deathban.

  • When you enter, the pit records what you carry. If you die, you keep your gear and everything you brought in. Only what you picked up since you entered drops.
  • Leaving the pit any way (a warp, /spawn, switching servers) makes everything you carry yours.
  • Logging out leaves a combat logger behind. If it is killed, it drops the same farmed items.
  • Loot that doesn't fit in a full inventory drops at your feet instead of going to your /stash. Only you can pick it up for 30 seconds.

See Death & Item Loss for every area's rules.

The seal and the lower pit

The centre of the pit is sealed at the start of each map. Every ring guard a player kills counts toward breaking it, and at 25,000 kills it breaks for the whole server and stays open for the rest of the map. The seal shows the count and cracks as it gets closer. See The Lower Pit.

Version history

v4.0.0 (Map 4)

  • Each of the 8 platforms now holds a squad of 4 guards that rise from a guardhouse: melee guards, Erebus Marksmen, or Frost, Flame or Storm Mages.
  • Guards have 500 health (up from 200), deal 50% less damage per hit and have no damage reduction. Marksmen and mages have 300.
  • A squad comes back together 15 seconds after its last guard dies. On Map 3 each guard came back on its own after 30 seconds.
  • The pit is lit, and the guardhouses and forecourts count as part of the pit.
  • Shade gear (Wraithheart, Spectral and Skipstone sets, Detonate) works on pit guards.
  • No more deathban. A death drops only what you picked up since you entered.
  • Overflow loot drops at your feet for 30 seconds instead of going to /stash.
  • /warp pit and the Pit tile work from the Forgotten Polis.
  • New loot table with jewel crafting items, a new offhand and a new pet. Enchant Dust, the Kill Tracker, flares, Forge Fuel, expander boxes, the Mystery Boss Key, the Trim Remover and the Global Booster Box were removed.
  • Guard drops stay hidden in /loot and /rng until found. Guard kills pay the /daily bonus drop.
  • The centre is sealed until 25,000 guard kills open the Lower Pit.

v3.0.0

  • The Erebus Cap has been removed. The cap circle, the hold timer, the once-a-day loot claim and /lms are all gone. The Pit itself, its guards and their drops are unchanged.
  • LMS Guards no longer spawn. Regular Erebus Guards in the Pit are unaffected.
  • Erebus Guards now drop the Kill Tracker.
  • The Stay in LMS task has been removed from Elite and higher clue scrolls, and old scrolls carrying it drop that task automatically.
  • Erebus Guards are now covered by /rngmeter.

v2.0.0

  • Reworked the Erebus Cap: the per-minute Energy/Money/XP payout was removed, and holding the cap became about fighting the Pit guards.
  • The reward became a once-a-day loot claim for holding the cap about 5 minutes a day (was 15), giving 2 rolls from a modest pool.
  • Removed the Raider trim from the cap's loot table.
