The Hunter Tree is a passive skill tree for PvE. You earn Hunter XP from every monster and boss kill, the XP raises your Hunter Level, and every level gives you one point to spend in the tree. Open it with /hunter.

The tree has 132 nodes and the Hunter Level cap is 100, so you can never take all of it. Pick a path that suits how you hunt.

Everything in the tree works against monsters and bosses only, never against players.

Earning Hunter XP

Every PvE kill gives Hunter XP:

Source Hunter XP
Shade in a Polis run 5 x area multiplier (1 at level 1, up to 13 at level 103)
Wraith in a Polis run 15 x area multiplier
Erebus Pit guard 40
Erebus Pit elite 200
Sacred Way fissure creature 60
Sacred Way fissure champion 600
Avatar on the Sacred Way 5,000
Warden of the Ash 4,000
Lamia 500
Echidna 1,500
Thanatos 4,000
Hephaestus 8,000

The boss summoner gets the full amount. Everyone else who did a real share of the boss's damage gets half.

Your first kills each day pay boosted XP (see Daily Bonuses), and a Hunter XP Booster adds more. Both add to the base award rather than multiplying each other. The tree's own Insight nodes raise all Hunter XP you earn. Fractions of an XP point count and are saved.

/hunter shows your level, your XP, your progress as a percentage and the XP left to the next level. /hunter info prints the same in chat.

Hunter Levels

Hunter Level Total Hunter XP
1 310
10 36,800
25 348,750
50 1,950,000 (about)
100 11,000,000 (about)

Node types

The tree starts in the middle and you spend points outward along connected paths. Each area of the tree leans toward one stat.

Small and major stat nodes make up most of the tree. A small node gives the smaller amount and a major node the larger one. Each stat has a cap no matter how many nodes you take.

Stat What it does Small Major Cap
Predation Increased damage against monsters and bosses 2% 5% 100%
Ward Less damage taken from monsters and bosses 1.5% 4% 40%
Luck Chance for an extra loot roll from monsters and bosses 2% 5% 40%
Plunder Chance for monster and boss drops to be doubled 1% 3% 20%
Pursuit Increased movement speed in hunting grounds (Polis runs and the Sacred Way) 3% 7% 50%
Insight Increased Hunter XP 3% 8% 100%

Notables are single nodes with their own ability:

  • Overkill: damage left over after you kill a monster jumps to the nearest monster within 8 blocks.
  • Bone Ward: each monster you kill adds an orbiting bone shard, up to 3. A shard fully blocks one hit from a monster or boss, then breaks.
  • Decoy: when a monster or boss hit drops you below 30% health, you leave a decoy that draws monster attacks for 3 seconds. It recharges after 10 kills.
  • Hunter's Sight: outlines every monster within 48 blocks through walls. Only you see it.

Keystones change how you fight, with a cost attached:

  • Rhythm Strike: your hits on monsters and bosses can't crit, but every 4th hit on the same target deals double damage.
  • Unbowed: no single monster or boss hit can take more than 20% of your max health, but you can't leech.

The two views

/hunter opens the tree as a drawn screen. It needs the server resource pack. /hunter chest opens a chest view of the same tree, which Bedrock players and players without the resource pack get by default.

Presets

You can keep up to 3 presets. Each one is a separate tree that uses all of your points.

  • Preset 1 is always open.
  • Preset 2 opens at Hunter Level 25.
  • Preset 3 comes from level 10 of the paid season pass.

Switch with the preset buttons or /hunter preset <1-3>. There is no swap cooldown, but you can't switch for 10 seconds after hitting or being hit by a monster or boss, and never inside a boss arena.

Respecs and refunds

A respec resets your active preset and refunds all its points.

  • Free up to Hunter Level 10.
  • After that it costs money, rising with your Hunter Level, with a minimum of $7,500 per earned point. For example: about $82,500 at level 11, $158,000 at level 20, $5.06M at level 50 and $38.4M at level 100.

You can also refund a single node with two clicks, as long as the rest of your tree stays connected to the start. One node costs the full respec price divided by your earned points. Refunds aren't possible in combat.

Leaderboard

/huntertop ranks hunters by the total Hunter XP they've earned this season.

Version history

v4.0.0 (Map 4)

  • Hunter Points are now Hunter XP. You no longer spend them. XP raises your Hunter Level, and every level gives one point for the new Hunter Tree (132 nodes, level cap 100).
  • The old /hunter perk shop (Hunter's Sight, Swiftness, Luck, Edge, Ward, Plunderer's Fortune, Spectral Echo) is gone. Its stats live on as tree nodes.
  • Every monster and boss kill gives Hunter XP. Boss contributors get half the boss's Hunter XP. Hephaestus pays 8,000, down from 10,000.
  • /hunter chest opens a chest view of the tree.
  • /huntertop ranks total Hunter XP earned this season.
  • Talos is no longer bought or upgraded with Hunter Points.
  • v4.0.3: Hunter XP boosters add to the daily kill bonus instead of multiplying it. /hunter shows XP, progress percentage and XP to the next level.
  • v4.0.4: switch presets without a swap cooldown outside combat and boss arenas. Respecs are free through level 10 and much cheaper after, with a $7,500-per-point minimum. Single nodes can be refunded with two clicks. Fractional Hunter XP now counts and is saved.

v3.0.0

  • Talos is no longer a dungeon drop. Unlock it in the Boss Shop for 5,000 Hunter Points and manage it with /talos. It runs without a cell construct now.
  • Talos hunts a boss once you have killed 50 of that boss yourself. Boss access is no longer bought with Hunter Points.
  • Talos runs bottom out at 15 minutes for every boss at max speed.
  • Talos completion chance reaches 100% with maxed upgrades and a fully claimed paid season pass, which grants +20% across levels 1, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50.
  • Talos no longer applies a per-boss completion penalty, so Thanatos and Hephaestus are no harder for it to finish.

v2.0.0

  • Hunter Points are now spent in the new /hunter perk shop on 7 perks (Sight, Swiftness, Luck, Edge, Ward, Plunderer's Fortune and Spectral Echo) instead of unlocking tiers by rank.
