Fissures

Fissures are glowing cracks that open along the Sacred Way. They are where you farm Ichor.

How a fissure works

  1. Find one. Each open fissure has a column of light over its head that you can see from anywhere on the road.
  2. Stand near the glowing head (within about 16 blocks) and it starts to crawl along the valley floor. It only moves while someone is near its head.
  3. Creatures climb out as it grows: a pack when you first arrive, then another every 10 blocks or so. The crack waits while more than 4 of its creatures are alive, so it never drags you past a fight.
  4. It ends in a maw. After 60 to 120 blocks the crack stops and its maw throws out a champion.
  5. Kill the champion and the maw bursts with Ichor straight into the killer's bag.

Players standing at an awake fissure's head glow, so everyone nearby can see who is farming it.

Where they open

  • Seven fissures are open at a time.
  • Every zone past the meadow (Timber Village to the Dark Reach) always has at least one, and no zone has more than two.
  • A new fissure opens 30 seconds after one closes, at least 40 blocks from any other.
  • A fissure nobody reaches closes after 10 minutes and opens somewhere else.
  • A woken fissure that everyone walks away from closes after 4 minutes, and its creatures crumble.
  • A maw nobody is near for 4 minutes closes without paying.

Zones and difficulty

Creatures get tougher the further south their fissure is, and pay more Ichor.

Zone Creature health Creature damage Maw burst
Timber Village x1 x1 3 Ichor
Yurt Steppe x1.5 x1.2 4 Ichor
Crimson Grove x2 x1.45 7 Ichor
Pale Bazaar x2.5 x1.7 10 Ichor
Dark Reach x3 x2 14 Ichor

Packs are mixed: front-line fighters, ranged creatures behind them, sometimes a tougher one or a caster. The Soul Caster and the Ember Caster only appear from the Crimson Grove south.

Bloodlines and creatures

Each fissure belongs to one bloodline: Lamia, Echidna, Thanatos or Hephaestus. The bloodline sets the crack's colour, its creatures and its champion. All four can open in any zone.

Bloodline Creatures Champion
Lamia Serpent Spawn, Venom Spitter, Coil Guard, Mirror Siren Gorgon Matriarch
Echidna Venombrood, Brood Egg, Brood Carrier, Web Weaver Brood Mother
Thanatos Risen Thrall, Bone Archer, Soul Caster, Deathless Grave Knight
Hephaestus Bronze Sentinel, Forge Thrower, Ember Caster, Bronze Hulk Bronze Colossus

The Coil Guard, Brood Carrier, Deathless and Bronze Hulk are the tough ones in each bloodline. They and the champions count for more Ichor. A Brood Egg counts for less.

Creatures and you

  • A creature goes for the nearest player it can see, or whoever hits it. Hitting one alerts its whole pack.
  • It chases you anywhere past the meadow. It lets go when you step into the North Meadows, die or leave.
  • Creatures left alone with nobody around crumble and pay nothing.
  • Creature kills give 60 Hunter XP each and a champion gives 600 (base amounts).

Rewards

  • Ichor for every kill, adding up as you go. Tougher creatures and kills further south count for more. The champion's maw burst is the big payout (see the table above).
  • Ichor goes into your bag. It is carried haul: it drops if you die south of the first neck. Walk it back to the meadow to bank it.

See Ichor for what to spend it on.
